Good evening, everyone. As I type these words, everyone else in my house has retired, if only for the night. I shall do the same shortly. My 401K allows me to retire each night but then I have to get up and go to work again.
As my wife and kids were at the Y this morning, I decided to take a coffee break to a roaster that I have never been to but heard a bunch of great things, Luna in DePere, WI. I’ve heard that they are very much a part of the local community here and their roaster on their website’s video has a tattoo and that’s usually a tell — this guy can roast coffee.
It’s about the same travel distance as LaJava (time-wise) but I was willing to boldly go somewhere new (even if it meant forsaking my Kona supplier).
The people were right, Luna seemed like the place to be. And people were already there, taking up all the parking spots. I had to park a good two blocks away. The place looks like a good coffee house should – like a well worn vinyl record. It definitely had it’s charm and I felt a little out of place. Am I cool enough to be here? No.
So I grabbed by coffee and ran… two blocks back to my car. They didn’t have the fru-fru whole bean flavor coffees, but they didn’t have single origin either, just blends. Now, I’m not a big blend guy. I’m a bit of a purist. Maybe a Puritan. Maybe too prudish. Maybe that’s why I didn’t feel like I fit in there. But I decided to play it cool and get their “Good Dog” blend.
It was a man’s best friend… this man. Best blend I ever had. It’s really easy drinking, very light and laid back. Cool, you could say. And maybe, just maybe, if you are what you eat (or drink), maybe I’m getting cooler.
When the fam got back from the Y, we blasted off to Oshkosh for some fun at the EAA. It’s always nice to go there. TL and the Princess dropped us off first and went to the American Girl doll outlet to pick up a reward for Teresa keeping her room so clean this month. I know, jumping the gun, it’s only January 30th. Well, we’re keeping the receipt.
It’s great taking the kids to that museum but I’d like to go there someday when I can really “read” it from cover to cover. If I try to read a display, the kids tend to disappear. Not fun in a museum. Especially with a two year old that likes to hide and his good at it. Sometimes I open up the garbage closet at home and he pops out. I don’t think his mom threw him away.
On the way home we stopped at Mickey D’s for supper. And even though it’s my cheat day on my slow carb diet, I just felt I could do better. So I made myself a pretty healthful nacho thingy at home. I later rewarded myself with half a container of Ben and Jerry’s. Ya gotta do, what ya gotta do. That’s exactly what I did.
